Jens studied applied chemistry (B.Sc.) at Brandenburg University of Technology. In his bachelor thesis at Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research (IAP), he synthesized and characterized potential inhibitors of the enzymes horseradish peroxidase and laccase. Through this work, he developed a strong interest in applying chemistry to biological questions, which led to his master's program in chemical biology at Friedrich-Schiller University Jena.
Currently he is doing his master thesis, in which he synthesizes novel chemical probes and identifies their cellular targets via ABPP.
Outside of the lab, he spends a lot of time with his young family, including hiking and exploring new places. He also likes to cook and plays the guitar until dishes are ready.
